Current State of Minimum Wage

As it is now minimum wage has been sitting on 8.75 in New York State since december 2014. Not only is minimum wage long overdue for change, but it is just to low for those americans who need to live off such a low wage living in a expensive state like New York. Minimum wage needs to be increase to account for the living cost in New York. Not only would it further lead to a better economy, with less people dependent on the government to supply low wage workers with extra financial help, but it would lead to overall better America as other states would follow New York in raising minimum wage to account for a states living cost. When it comes down to it the people need money and the people should at least be getting a wage that they can support themselves off of. Raise minimum wage for the people and a better America.

  1. Maybe, the cost of living should go down instead of minimum wage?
The cost of living might also increase because the minimum wage will increase. Also, there may be higher unemployment rates and the jobs may be outsourced to other countries where labor is cheaper.

  2. I completely agree with this. As things get more expensive and minimum wage remains the same it is harder for people to support themselves.

  3. As much as I agree with the statement we also have to take into account the economy and how much money we actually have. "How would increasing minimum wage change the economy?" is a question this brings up.

  4. But the thing is, what if someone who is really poor but is working really hard vs someone who is really rich and is, how would you determine the amount of wages they get? Even if it's someone you respect and someone you don't know about, their efforts put in the work is different. But, I do agree with you that people are not getting enough money to survive, but I think people who works hard should get higher wages to some extent, despite the fact that there are times when you want to give more money to people you like.
